Sao Joao grind creates a splash

Light showers, strong winds, an overcast sky and excitement in the air! Sao Joao was celebrated with much gusto in Goa. To celebrate the spirit of Sao Joao - Goa’s rain festival, Muzic Matters and Riveira de Goa in association with beverage leaders Tuborg organised the Tuborg Sao Joao Grind on June 24 at Riviera de Goa in Arpora.

The country’s heart-throbs DJ Tuhin Mehta also known as Brute Force and DJ Rohit Barker, host of the popular radio show Hot Mix got the crowd screaming for more by spinning a load of fresh tunes that were in sync with the melodious rhythm of the rain.
No Sao Joao celebration is complete without a gleeful romp in the rain and foot tapping music. Muzic Matters’ Tuborg Sao Joao Grind, a pool party went on from the afternoon into the night and offered lots of great music, fun games, water sports and competitions.
Exciting prizes and gifts were given to deserving winners all through the day in contests, games and trivia. A wet day throws one’s appetite into overdrive. The specialty restaurant CoBa dished out mouth watering munchies including sandwiches, finger food and warm snacks. With an envious DJ line up that included Chennai based Tuhin Mehta also known as Brute Force and the immensely popular RJ and DJ Rohit Barker played alongside Goa’s talented artists Navin, Anish Sood and Ryan Nogar, the party made a huge splash on the party scene.
The young crowd did not refrain from diving in the swimming pool to get a feel of the traditional custom of jumping in the well. Nobody gave a second thought to the pouring rain and danced their hearts out be it inside the pool or out. This one party will be remembered for a long long time.
Sao Joao is a popular local festival celebrated across Goa during the monsoons. It involves a whole day of revelry, fun and dancing in the rains. Traditional events involve jumping in local village wells and ponds. Urban celebrations on the other hand revolve around pool parties and groovy music. Leaf and flower crowns called 'kopels' are worn on the head, on the day.
