In Goa after a gap of 6 months, Rohit Barker is back here to do what he does best – play mind-blowing music. Marienelle DSouza caught up with Rohit as he gets set to put the DJ console on fire today at Riviera De Goa for the Tuborg Sao Joao Grind.
1) So are you excited to be back in Goa?
-Goa’s like my second home I am definitely excited to be back. Though I haven’t been here for quite some time now, I am absolutely excited. It’s always a pleasure. The last time I was in Goa was during Sunburn in December.
2) Have you been to any of the Sao Joao celebrations here in Goa?
-No, but I have friends in Goa and they tell me a lot about it. It will be great to experience it for the first time.
3) How did DJing happen to Rohit Barker?
-Well I have always loved music. From the very beginning, everything I did was channelled towards music. I initially started out as an RJ and then got into DJing. I’ve been truly inspired by two people who are the most well-renowned DJs in India- DJ Ivan and Nikhil Chinnappa. Yes, I love music and there was no better option.
4) How has the musical journey been so far?
-It has been about 4 to 5 years since I set out on this wonderful journey and the ride has been truly awesome. I’ve been inspired by House Music greats like Sultan, Roger Sanchez, Norman Dorey and Swedish House Mafia, all of whom I’ve been fortunate enough to have played with.
5) Last year you travelled to Ibiza. What was it like being in the world’s most popular party destination?
-Ibiza is the capital of Dance Music. It’s amazing; the scale of parties and the music transcends to a whole new level. Ibiza is a cauldron of musical brilliance. DJs and artistes converge from all over the world on this one little island and the outcome is complete musical mayhem. On one of my recent trips to Ibiza, I went to this awesome club called Bora Bora which reminded me of a club in Goa.
6) We have a vast bank of talent in India, any advice for them?
-Simple. Do it for the music and not for the fame or money.
7) What do you think of the party scene in Goa?
In India, I think Goa organises the best parties, Sunburn being the best and biggest party. Goa is the perfect place for a music festival of this magnitude and it is always fun to play here. The people have this really positive vibe here. They appreciate good music, and dance their hearts out. The energy is absolutely amazing too. (muzicmatters)
