Pt Chari Punyasmaran Sangeet Samaroh today

PANAJI: In memory of tabla master of Goa, the late Pt Prabhakar Chari, the Pt Prabhakar Chari Pratishthan Goa are holding a Pt Chari Punyasmaran Sangeet Samaroh on August 28 from 4 pm onwards at Goa Chamber of Commerce hall, Panaji.

The main attraction of the Samaroh will be a tabla solo performance by internationally acclaimed tabla artist Pt Yogesh Samsi from Mumbai.

Yogesh Samsi is one of those rare tabla players whose reputation has been built on his consummate artistry in the fields of accompaniment and solo playing. The son of the renowned vocalist Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, Yogesh Samsi was initiated into tabla by his father at the tender age of four, and later received guidance under Pandit H Taranath

Rao. However it was under the gifted tutelage of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha that Yogesh received intense training for twenty three years and, matured into a fine

young tabla player.

Amruta Lokhande on the sitar and Rupak Naigaonkar on the sarod will perform a Jugalbandi. Amruta has obtained a degree of ‘Sangeet Visharad’ in both, sitar as well as in classical vocal from the Akhil Bharateeya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Meeraj. She is pursuing her academic education in management that is BBA (Bachelor in Business Administration) from the well known Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai. She is the recipient of national scholarship awarded by CCRT (Centre for Cultural Resources and Training), ministry of culture, Government of India. Amruta has given many solo and group performances all over the country.

Senior disciples of late Pt Prabhakar Chari, Sandeep Bharne and Kumar Sarjyotishi will present a tabla duet recital where as Dr Rajesh Vhatkurse; another disciple of Pt Chari will present a tabla solo performance. Dr Manisha Kulkarni from Mumbai will compere the programme.

Late Pt Prabhakar Chari has contributed a lot in the field of Indian classical music. He received training in tabla initially from the late Dhondumam Katkar and the late Vinayakrao Amonkar. Thereafter he learned from the late Pt Yeshwantrao Kerkar, a doyen in the field of tabla. Pt Chari imparted training in tabla in every nook and corner of Goa and trained disciples of with dedication. Teaching tabla was his mission. He worked as a tabla Guru in the Vivekanand Society’ music faculty at Panaji for 26 years. Besides, he taught tabla at Bhagini Mandal, Panaji, Mhan orchestra, Vasco, Udaymukh Kalakar Sauch, Ponda, Kalavijayate, Kavlem, Lalitprabha, Volvoi and Maharudra Sangeet Vidhalaya, Mapusa. He was also a visiting lecturer at Goa College of Music from 1993 to 2001.

The late Pt Prabhakar Chari was felicitated by the Samrat Sangeet Academy in 1984, Pratibha friends circle in 1988, Lalitprabha Volvoi in 1995, Vishwakerma Samaj, Mumbai in 1997, Rotary Club, Panaji in 1997. He was honoured with a fellowship in 1981 by Gomantak Marathi Academy, Goa government with the State Cultural award in 1983.
