Kala Academy, Panaji is hosting a musical programme on April 24 at 4 p.m. to pay homage to Nirmala Pai Kakode–the eminent harmonium player.
The evening will have an array of performances like the sanavadini vadan by Mr Vidyadhar Pakale. It would be then followed by Mr Naresh Parsenkar and Eknath Borkar on sanvadini sahavadan. There will be also a flute recital by Sonik Velingkar, tabla tarang by Amit Bhosale. There will be another sanvadini sahavadan by Mr Subhash Fatarpekar and Dilip Gadeker. The event will conclude with a vocal recital by Mr Rajprabhu Dhotre and Sumedha Dessai.
Late Nirmala Pai Kakode who created a name for herself in the world of music, started learning harmonium at a tender age of five. She started learning about music under Pt Rambhau Bijapure.
Kakode who was born and brought in Belgaum, Karnataka won many prizes right from an early age. Further on she took training under Pt Purshottam Valavalkar. She then started teaching harmonium in Belgaum.
In 1980, she started teaching harmonium at Kala Academy, Panaji. For 22 years, she served the Kala Academy. She produced many artistes like Vitthal Khandolkar, Raya Korgaonkar, Subhash Fatarpekar, Eknath Borkar and Dilip Gadekar, to name a few.
Throughout her career she performed at various events in and around Goa. She even performed with well-known classical artistes like Pt Bhimsen Joshi, Pt Dinkar Kaikani, Pt Basavraj Rajguru, Kishori Amonkar, gulam Mustafa Khan, Pt Prabhakar Karekar, Asha Khadilkar and others.
