Konkani tele-serial on Sai Baba to enthral Goans

Sai Baba, a saint who lived in the late 19th and early 20th century in Shirdi, has been highly regarded by his countless followers the world over, including Hindu and Muslim devotees.

‘Sai Leela’, a Konkani television serial on Sai Baba will soon bring various facts, stories, anecdotes and experiences of the devotees linked to this ‘Saint of the people’ before Goan audiences.
The serial will be launched at the Shree Sai Baba temple at Borim, in the Ponda taluka at 6.30 p.m. on January 26, and will be telecast on In Goa cable television channel the same day between 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. The serial will subsequently be telecast every Thursday, the day dedicated to Sai Baba.
The CEO of the In Goa cable television channel, Mr Anil Lad said that the serial will initially run for one year, and then more episodes would be added. “The original serial was telecast on Sahara satellite television channel and turned so popular that it was later dubbed into various languages,” he added, pointing out that the serial, now dubbed in Konkani has Sudhir Dalvi in the title role. Incidentally, Mr Dalvi had enacted the same role in the super hit film of the 1980s, ‘Shirdi ke Sai Baba.’
The treasurer of the Sai Paduka Samitee in Goa, Mr Vivek Parsekar, and Mr Kishor Juvekar, the manager of the Mapusa branch of TJSB Bank, the main sponsor of the serial were also present.
Speaking further, Mr Lad said that the top dubbing artist, Giriraj, who is a Goan by origin has dubbed for Sai Baba in Konkani. “The saint has been worshipped cutting across the religious lines, and that is what inspired me to show this serial in Goa,” he observed, stating that Goa too has large number of Sai followers.
