The eight-day annual aatra of Shree Shantadurga temple, Kavlem, Ponda is currently on. The main day being of the zatra is on Panchami, as per the Hindu calendar.
On this day the Shree Procession-Maha Rathotsav was held in the wee hours. The magnificent chariot decked with flowers that carried the deity is pulled by devotees. Goddess Shantadurga is elegantly decorated with gold ornaments and flowers for the occasion. It is believed that this goddess is one of the richest among Goan temples. Devotees offer gold ornaments, puja articles and other food items, which are later auctioned on ‘Mhovyachi Pavni’.
Thousands of devotees flocked to seek blessings of Goddess Shantadurga.
The zatra concludes today at 10 a.m. with the Shree Vijayrath procession.
