In times when regional cinema is getting eclipsed by mainstream cinema, an artiste like Jyothi Kunkoliekar is what the industry needs. She began her journey in the entertainment industry as a child artiste with All India Radio.
Today she has to her credit several films, documentaries and TV series. Jyothi Kuncoliekar displayed her cinematic prowess in her debut film, Mukta, for which she wrote the story, screenplay dialogues and lyrics. She also acted in the film. On August 11 and 12, the International Centre of Goa (ICG)will showcase some her films to share with the world her stupendous contribution to Konkani cinema. A winner of a number of accolades in film festivals at the state level, Jyoti has contributed to various processes of film making from screenplay to producing to acting and directing. The festival will kick-start with the screening of Chandrakant Bharve’s ‘Mareparyant phansi’ which is produced by Jyothi. The festival will also showcase well known documentaries like ‘Gauri’ and ‘Ravindra Bab’ directed by Jyothi herself. “The documentary on Ravindra Kelekar, was a massive project and a very special one to me”, says Jyothi who deeply regrets the loss of the well known writer and philosopher. The festival will be inaugurated by Minister of Art and Culture, Dayanand Mandrekar who has been invited as the chief guest. MLA Chairman of Kala Academy, Vishnu Wagh will be the Guest of Honour. The closing ceremony on August 12 will have MLA Vijay Sardesai as a special guest. Jyothi is currently working on a project offered to her as a fellowship by the Goa government and on a documentary on renowned poet late Manoharrai Sardessai.
