Gypsy Groove by the Beach

NT METWORK
So we're into the year of music in a big way and what a wonderful first quarter it has been. The first Gypsy Jazz show of the year was in January with Djaima and her Bulgarian Parisian Gypsy music that had music aficionados begging for more; seems like the Gypsy fever really took over Goan music lovers.

Heritage Jazz is all set to bring the Gypsy good stuff back to Goa, this time with a lot of guitar flavour infused.
Venetian born Harri Stojka is considered to be one of the world's greatest gypsy jazz guitarists. Coming from a Roma Gypsy family that surrounded him with rhythm and harmony even before he could talk, he has musical roots that run deep.
His fascination with the guitar started at the tender age of six when his father bought him a plastic guitar. Seeing his fascination Harri's father wasted no time in buying him a real guitar and told his son to practice till his fingers smoked. Till today Harri has the same approach to the instrument.
Harri Stojka's music is upbeat, exciting, high energy and pure fun. Apart from recordings his concerts remain the main focus of his life. As most of his relatives died at the hands if the murderous rein under the Nazis some of his projects commemorate this dark story and liberation from the regime. His songs also pay tribute to his musical roots of Roma. In 2005, the magazine ‘Concerto’ named Harri Stojka ‘Best Musician’ in the category ‘Jazz National’.
Heritage Jazz encourages performers of all genres of music and takes pride in bringing back Gypsy music to Goa. Harri's tryst with Heritage Jazz began when he performed at the ‘Jazz for Peace’ show in December 2009 along with Dutch trumpet queen, Saskia Laroo. From playing the popular songs from the gypsy almanac to his own compositions Harri Stojka left the crowd speechless. His upcoming concert for Heritage Jazz hopes to elicit the same response.
Harri Stojka will be performing with his band at Zeebop, Utorda on the May 1, 2010 at 7.30 p.m.
