Peter-Roshan has released a new play after many years. ‘Goem Soddun Paulem Ghanttar’ is about Goan girls who fall for the charm of migrants and many-a-times mess up their future.
The play opens at the railway station. Raj Pillai arrives in Goa seeking to make his fortune. The next scene has Diana, waiting to welcome her younger sister Simran, who had run away from home with the same Raj. She is now his wife and they have two children. Although they are received well by Diana and her effeminate brother, Norman, Raj is all out to grab part of the property. Posing as Jimmy, he also tries to befriend Nikita, to usurp her wealth. Watch what happens to these characters, on stage, in a play that is thought provoking and very entertaining.
A good script, sleek direction and a high dose of comedy are the highlights of the play. Watch the pre-interval sequence, enacted in style. Antonette de Calangute plays Diana, putting on a great performance as the matriarch. She has some of the best lines. Roshan is the unfortunate Simran. Good acting especially in the tragic sequences. Steffi does a fine act as Nikita, the other woman. Willie is perfect as Raj. His dressing, facial expressions and dialogue delivery is just right. Peter does the role of the effeminate Norman very well. The walk, the talk and the overall act. Filipe Almeida is good in a cameo of another migrant, Balaji. Benzer and Shenaya play the two innocent children, superb in their act. These are the future of the Konkani stage. Ambe as the sober teacher, Janet as the stylishly dressed but noisy tutor and Brian with Aurelius, as the two students with some ‘inner’ connection create a laugh riot that had the audience in splits.
Anthony de Velim, Cruz, James, John and Angelo provide great music to the various solos, duets and trios from Shenaya, Roma, Steffi, Roshan, Peter, Francis de Tuem, Marcos Vaz, Kistu, Sunny, Brian and others. A trio by Antonette with the two Steffi’s, is impressive. Sidhanath Buyao, steps on the Konkani stage for the first time with a beautiful solo. A warm welcome, please do continue and James provides a beautiful background score during the main act.
