To salute each and every hero who silently works behind the scenes and celebrate the economic and social achievements of workers, Goa Chitra presents ‘May Day’ today as a tribute to the rights of each and every worker to relax and have fun after a hard day’s work.
Amidst a set up of implements and reverence to labour by our ancestors, the evening will feature an exclusive unplugged concert by Elvis Lobo and Cliff de Souza followed by an impromptu jam session by some of Goa’s finest musicians who are professionals in various fields and who come together ones in a while to belt a few tunes and have fun with music.
Well-known musicians, Dr Francisco Colaco (vocals), Darryl Coelho (violin and mandolin), Gladstone D’Costa (Guitar, Flute and Keyboards), Francis Pereira (Drums), Julius Rodrigues (Flamingo Guitar), Schubert Cota (Clasical Guitar), Neville D’Souza (Keyboards and Bass Guitar) and others will dedicate their performance to all workers who uplift humanity.
Elvis Lobo is one of the finest guitarists in India and is Goa's hottest guitar player. His playing style covers jazz, rock, pop, funk, fusion, blues and current sounds of nu-jazz. He has backed world renowned musicians like A R Rehman, Kailash Kher, Shaan, Kunal Gangawala, Bondo, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sophia Haque & Julles Fuller & many more.
He is currently based in Goa after touring worldwide with Sufi singer Abida Parvin and Sonu Nigam for the Dhanak festival at Royal Albert hall and with ‘The Incredibles’ tour in America and the Carribean with Asha Bhonsle, Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher and Kunal Ganjawala.
He has done opening acts for international bands like Deep Purple, Bryan Adams, Enrique Iglesias and Ronan Keating. With tight rhythms by Cliff de Souza and lead guitar notes by Elvis, this duo never fails to impress. Giving the audience a much-desired 'feel' from their musicianship, they keep it clear and clean with some great acoustic sounds. Most definitely one of the best acoustic sets in the country today as many musicians will agree, the icing on the cake usually comes about to the listeners when they get off their chairs and begin grooving to some great Goan folk songs on our traditional six-eight rhythm. And then again, Cliff's rendition of songs like Bob Dylan’s ‘Serve Somebody’, Eric Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’ just hits the spot.
“May Day” is a part of the ongoing series of music revival and an attempt to raise funds for the museum while toasting to each one of us as professionals and to the dignity of our labour. The event will be held at Goa Chitra Open Air Auditorium on May 1 and shall commence from 8 p.m. sharp to 10 p.m.; followed by dinner.
