The Department of Garment Technology, Government Polytechnic, Panaji, in association with the KalaAcademypresented a unique fashion show in the hope of encouraging and lending wings to young Goan designers to prove their mettle and excel in the mercilessly demanding fashion industry.
The fashion show which took place on March 19 beautifully combined natural fabrics in a unique celebration of fusion fashion encompassing the distinctive qualities of each of the continents.
Sequence one featured the Australian continent. Primarily revolving around the relaxed casual wear, the line included jumpers, handkerchief shirts and denim pinafores.
Sequence two featured America, embracing the constancy of western wear especially the ever popular cowboy boots. This line included among others a strapless top with princess seam along with a tight-fitted matte skirt and a tight-fitted trouser with side opening.
Sequence three featured the African continent. Rich in color and generous in its fresh exuberant style, the fashion line celebrated the diversity of African culture and fashion. A noteworthy design was a kaftan top with a wrap skirt.
Flounced gowns, corsets and ruffled skirts and Elizabethan collars seemed to make comeback in sequence four–Europe. The line included an elaborate gown with asymmetric crisscrosses on the back and suit with overlapped hemline and a mantle on top of it with slim fit trousers and a golden headgear.
Sequence five featured Asia. Exotic, colorful, vibrant, visually stimulating, the young designers managed to give traditional outfits very modern variations. Some of the outfits displayed included a full sleeves katori choli and churidhar in silk with a brocade trail and skirt with inserted fan pleats and detailed with peacock feathers.
Coupled with pulsating music complimenting the strutting models, the fashion show, was a praiseworthy effort of some of the young and upcoming designers in Goatoday.
