Enthusiastic crowds converge for Sangodd

Mapusa: Hundreds of enthusiastic people on Tuesday converged at Orda jetty at Candolim to witness the traditional Sangodd that is held to mark the feast of St Peter and Paul.

The Sangodd began with a small prayer at the Santa Cruz Chapel and thereafter the opening chorus of a hymn was sung.

The traditional Sangodd then began with by letting loose a fleet of balloons in the sky. Various  artistes of the Konkani stage including Albert Cabral, Andrew, Young Chico, Junior Chico, Bhushka, T Britton,  Minglu, Anil Pednekar, Baba Welbert and a host of others as well as some locals artistes  from the village performed, keeping the crowds delighted all through the evening.

The Sangodd made six stops along the bank of the Orda jetty and then returned back.  The weather in the evening was quite pleasant which was another reason why people came in throngs was.

As part of tradition that has been kept alive for the last nearly 150 years, this area in Candolim honour St Peter, the first Pope as well as the Patron saint of fishermen, by holding the Sangodd annually.
