Chinmaya Mission: Enlightening youth through scriptures

The Panaji centre of the Chinmaya Mission - an international spiritual organisation - will be organising the 15th annual Geeta Gyana Yagna based on the 14th chapter of Shreemad Bhagwad Geeta, from July 26 to August 1, between 6.30 p.m and 8 p.m, at the city Mahalaxmi temple.

The spiritual discourses relating to the topic ‘Know your mind’ and based on the revered Sanskrit religious scripture will be addressed by Swamini Amitanandaji. This talk is specially focussed on youth for knowing their minds with practical tips as described in Bhagwad Geeta.
Furthermore, the morning discourses will be conducted by Swamini Amitanandaji from July 27 to August 1, between 6.30 a.m and 7.30 a.m on the topic ‘Manhshodhnam’ based on the Upanishads. Swamini Amitanandaji is a highly learned person with post graduation in science and a doctorate in chemistry from Bombay University. She is presently based in Sandeepany Sadhanalaya, Powai, Mumbai and conducts discourses on the Bhagwad Geeta, Upanishads, Ramayana, Bhagwad, Hanuman Chalisa and other Vedic texts.
Noted industrialist and president of the Panaji unit of the Chinmaya Mission, Mr Srinivas Dempo, addressing a press conference on Saturday, said that the population in general is developing high stress levels and mechanisms such as spiritual discourses form solutions to the problem.
“The city unit of the Mission is on the verge of expansion of its activities, and would soon set up an ashram at St Inez-Bhatlem to carry out activities like Balvihar for children, Yuva Kendra for youth, study groups for adults and devi groups for ladies,” Mr Dempo stated, pointing out that the city unit of the Chinmaya Mission is contemplating on setting up of a school, which would follow values as propagated by the Chinmaya Mission.
Speaking further, Mr Dempo said that over 10 lakh students have gained knowledge through the educational institutions of the Mission, founded by the spiritual leader and scholar of Bhagwad Geeta, Swami Chinmayanandaji.
Replying to a question, Mr Dempo said that the city unit of Chinmaya Mission was set up in the year 1994. The Mission started its work in Goa 28 years ago.
Mr Santosh Kenkre and Ms Shubhalaxmi Naik of the Panaji centre of the Chinmaya Mission were also present during the occasion. Mr Kenkre said that the Mission has 250 centres all around the globe, including 50 located in foreign countries, with 20 of them in USA alone. “Besides educational institutions, the Mission has set up a hospital in Bangalore for the poor and needy,” he mentioned, noting that the Panaji unit of the Mission is proposing to extend assistance to the weaker sections the society in fields like education and legal advice.
