Billy Vaughn
In the good old days of the radio, Billy Vaughn was a favourite. On every programme of western music broadcast, the All india Radio, Panaji always played at least one track of this great musician. In the later years, try as you might, there were no recordings from this musician available at the music shops.
Fortunately for the discerning listener and thanks to Rock and Raaga, Panaji we can now have a 3-disc set from Billy Vaughn. And what a compilation it is! All the favourites are featured and one can embark on a great nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The first disc features Melody of Love, Carolina Moon, Billy Vaughn’s Boogie, ‘Moritat’, Blue tango and Autumn leaves besides 10 others. The second disc has more catchy tunes including the likes of Lisbon Antigua, Cherry pink and apple Blossom White, Third Man Theme, Petticoats of Portugal, San Antonio Rose, Laura and Dream. On the third disc one will find Smoke Gets into your Eyes, Night and Day, Stardust, Body and Soul, I only have Eyes for You, Raunchy and Sail along Silvery moon.
The beautiful arrangements, pleasant orchestration and a collection of 48 tracks make this album a complete treasure.
Shine like stars
‘Shine like Stars’ is the theme dedicated to the youth for the year 2009-10. An audio album has been released, with songs of praise and devotion.
The opening track is the title song rendered by Kay, Queenie and Fr Olavo. This is followed by tracks like ‘Yasia Fiesta’, Receive the Power, and Radiate Jesus in Life sung by Fr Manuel Dias. This track was composed for the Youth convention 2007 by Fr Olavo.
There is ‘Tornattea, Oniti Sanklleo Thodd’ by Queenie, ‘Porom Sonskar Ghe, Kuttumb Bhandunk Ie’ by Fanila, ’Venimus Adorarem Eum’ and ‘Open the Door to the Redeemer’ by Fr Olavo. Jerry Cardozo continues with ‘In His Faith We are Formed’ and the final track is a bonus from Queenie who sings ‘God’s Love Divine’.
Beautiful voices, good lyrics and catchy music, make this album a treat. Brother John and Fr Olavo play the keyboard with inputs from Jason quadros, Colin Dias and Rohit. The album is a fundraiser for ‘Montepio do Clero’ an association to support priests in their old age, illness and disability. Buy this pleasant album, enjoy the tracks and support a good cause.
