‘The Navhind Times Ex-NCC Achiever Awards’ function will be held on June 30, 2010 at 10.45 a.m. at the International Centre, Dona Paula. The function is being organised by State Ex-Cadets NCC Association in coordination with The Navhind papers and publications.
The Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat who is an ex-NCC Cadet and also the recipient of the Ex-NCC Achiever will be the Chief Guest. Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Mr Eduardo Faleiro will be the Special Guest. Ms Pallavi Dhempo, Executive Director of The Navhind Times will be the Guest of honour while Ms Nandini Sahai, Director International Centre will be the special invitee.
The selection committee formed under the Chairmanship of Dr Edward D’Lima have selected seven names for the Achiever Awards. Some of the members of the selection committee are Maj Vengopal Nair, Mr Pandurang Hegde and President of SENA, Adv Avinash Bhosle. Mr Pradip Sawant was the Project Manager.
The Award Winners: 1) Mr Pratapsingh Rane: Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Mr Pratapsing Rane was the longest serving Chief Minister of Goa. He has got an education in B. Sc., and a B.B.A. (Degree in Management). He was also leader of opposition and is a member of several house committees. He likes horse riding and swimming. He was an active NCC cadet during his college days.
2) JOHN AGUIAR : He won the prize for Best All Round Student in 1983 (Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao). He was Cadet Senior Under Officer and also won the award for Best NCC Cadet. He is a regular contributor to local dailies and periodicals in English, Konkani and Marathi. He has written and presented several plays on All India Radio on social themes and has conducted interviews on Dordarshan on issues like drug abuse, AIDS and others. As Honorary Company Commander of Home Guards has been instrumental in conducting awareness drive against use of drugs and also conducted cycle rallies, street plays on the subject. He is the author of the book of Konkani Poems ‘Jinn” and ‘Paulam’, ‘Gulmohar’ (Collection of poems in Konkani). He is Headquarters Commissioner (Pubic Relations), Goa Bharat Scouts and Guides Association and Hon. Coy Commander, Home Guards, Panaji Division.
3) ALLEN DE SA: Allen De Sa was a student of Progress high School, Panaji and Dempo College of Arts & Science, Miramar. He is a graduate in Economics and a student of Salgaoncar College of Law. He was NCC Cadet while in Progress High School and Dempo College of Arts & Science for a period of five years. While in NCC he has attended several camps and known as a best firer for his shooting abilities. He joined Goa Police Force in the Year 1979 in the rank of Police Sub Inspector. He has completed his Police training at Maharashtra Police Academy, Nasik. He was promoted to the rank of police Inspector in the year 1987. He has worked as In-charge of Police Station for a period of 18 years. During the said period he has to his credit a number of commendations and rewards. At present he is holding the position of Superintendent of Police, South District.
4) Adv Ajeetsingh Wamanrao Rane Sardesai (LAW) : Born on November 11 in the illustrious Rane Sardesai Juvekar family of Ranes Juvem at Bardez-Goa to Freedom Fighter Mr Wamanrao Nanasaheb Sardessai and Ms. Vijayabai Wamanrao Sardessai, Adv. Ajeetsingh hails from Bordem, Bichoim-Goa. He was the leader of Goa’s popular students’ agitation including Tri-ssemister, Kashmir bachao and final phase of Konkani railway agitation, hike in revaluation fees etc. Student leader Ajeetsingh was elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the Goa University students Council. He was also nominated by the Vice-Chancellor as the student representative for NCC, NSS and Sports for his valued contribution to those fields.
Presently, Ajeetsingh is practicing as a lawyer in the Panjim Bench of the Bombay High Court and have also devoted himself to the legal literacy mission as a part of his continued social work. His mission involves fighting for the Human Rights of Konkani Linguistic minorities of those in Karwar and Joida in Karnataka. Mr Rane Sardessai is the State Working President of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC-Goa Pradesh), as well as the Member of Child Welfare Committee/judicial magistrate first Class (JMFC), under the Juvenile Justice Act.
5) Sanjiv M Gadkar: Sanjiv M Gadkar is presently the Director of Women and Child Development, Government of Goa. He joined Government service in 1998 through Goa Public Service Commission as Jr. Grade Officer and held various posts such as Deputy Collector (Revenue) South, Land Acquisition Officer, IDC, Under Secretary (revenue), Secretariat and Deputy Director Vigilance.
6) Roque Dias: Mr Roque Dias, 48, the author of ‘Eduardo Faleiro- An Inspiration to Millions’ is presently attached with Netaji Subash, National Institute of Sports, [NS,NIS] the prestigious Academic Wing of the Sports Authority of India, [SAI]]at Patiala. He has worked in the Sports Administration for 22 years and has helped organise many National and International tournaments and National Coaching Camps for Indian Teams. He graduated in Science and did his Masters in Public Administration. He became a National Badminton Player (1975-82) and then NIS Badminton Coach (Diploma in Coaching). Roque Dias has made a unique place for himself in the field of sports and the administration with sheer hard work and dedication. Through an illustrious career rising from a poor village boy to a Director in the Sports Authority of India, he has overcome many hurdles and plenty of opposition. And throughout, he has displayed an exemplary devotion to the call of duty to nurture institutions and streamline functioning to bring about optimum results.
7) Fintan Ignatious De Souza (Retired Superintendent of Police) : An Alumni of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, Mr Fintan joined the National Cadet Corps, Senior Army Wing Division in 1963. He took keen interest in NCC, attended NCC Camps in Satara and Goa, passed the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Certificates. An Arts Graduate with a sterling NCC record contributed to his direct selection as a Police Sub Inspector in the Goa Police Department in 1971. He passed in honours and stood First among the Goan cadets at the Police Training College, Nasik after vigorous Training course of 1 ½ years duration.
As Police Sub-Inspector he worked as In-charge of Curchorem and Ribandar Police Stations. In 1986 he was promoted to the rank of Police Inspector and worked as in-charge of all the city police stations in Goa.The Sumitra Naik rape cum Murder case at Tivim in 1987 was his highlights and was highly creditable in his policing career. The case was detected and charge sheeted only on the basis of circumstantial evidence and was lauded by the then Sessions Judge. He was promoted to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in 1997 and thereafter worked as Sub Divisional Police Officer in Ponda, Special Branch, Foreigners Branch, Economic cell and Anti Narcotics cell. He headed ANC for almost four years with more than 100 seizures. The conviction rate during threat period stood at over 90 percent.
