This year, Israel, in all probability is set to be the focus country at the 49th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), to be held from November 20 to November 28, in Goa, with noted Israeli actress Gila Almagor expected to be invited as a member of the International Jury for the film festival.
The ‘Country Focus’ section at the annual nine-day film fiesta allows the nation chosen to showcase its creative talent through cinema, as well as destinations for film shoots.
Rajendra Talak, the vice chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa, which partners with the directorate of film festivals and the National Films Development Corporation (NFDC) in organising the premiere film festival, told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the Indian government had earlier written to the Israeli government inviting it to be the focus country at the IFFI 2018. “The consent of Israel is being awaited,” he added.
Furthermore, a special session on the success of
Indian films in China, such as ‘Dangal’ (2016) and ‘Secret Superstar’ (2017) will be organised at IFFI 2018. The Chinese distributors are expected to attend this session, in the presence of the film actor Aamir Khan to discuss marketing of Indian films in China.
According to the sources, a number of special sessions are on the cards for IFFI 2018, including an interaction with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, to commemorate the landmark moment of Indian cinema with a focus on the film ‘Sholay’ (1975). An interaction with actor Ranbir Kapoor is also being planned.
Among other sessions in the pipeline is ‘Indian cinema pushing boundaries’ and ‘New-age digital entertainment’ with a focus on the Netflix web series ‘Sacred Games’.
A preview committee has begun watching films to be selected for the Competition Section, Kaleidoscope and World Panorama sections of the festival.
Meanwhile, a special promotional film is in the process of being made by the ESG to spread awareness about the particular film festival. The festival will have its golden jubilee edition, next year.
