The general manager of Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd Salim Veljee has refused to divulge any details about the development works undertaken by the company in the city, revealed the Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), Uday Madkaikar, on Monday.
While speaking to this daily, Madkaikar said that the manager of IPSCDL has informed that they had neither undertaken road cutting nor road digging in the city limits, but the officials from Larsen & Toubro Ltd have confirmed that the road digging was done at behest of the IPSCDL.
He informed that the Corporation of City of Panaji in a strongly worded message had urged all the agencies engaged either in road digging or road cutting to wind up their work by April 30 or they will be penalised as the monsoon is fast approaching.
He said that the CCP has invited the officials of all the agencies engaged in road cutting to be present during the inspection that would be conducted by a technical team and engineers from the CCP.
He said that “the CCP will review the work, and urged the agencies to restore the areas soon after their work is completed,” and then carry on with further work.
“As the restoration work is carried out at a snail’s pace, a lot of problems were encountered wherever the digging was done; there was dust pollution and traffic congestions,” he added.
Meanwhile, he informed that “the municipal workers after cleaning the gutters dump the silt on the sides of the roads for 2-3 days. Once the silt becomes dry it is easier for them to transport it, and so the delay in clearing the wet silt.”
The Mayor had lengthy discussion over road digging with the general manager of IPSCDL on Monday.
