One of the world’s leading solo drummers, Jojo Mayer is set to make his way to Goa to headline the second edition of Goa International Jazz Live Festival (GIJF) with his music collective ‘Nerve’.
This year the second edition of GIJF will see performances by Swiss-born trumpeter Erik Truffaz, Mumbai-based electronic musician Riastu, DCF: A tribute to Madfingers, Kefaya, The Latination, Pol Belardi’s Urban 5, Florian Favre Trio and Vasundhra Vee.
Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, Managing Director, Teamwork Arts, Sanjoy K Roy says: “We are happy to be back in Goa. Goa has a special place in jazz history of India and the response we get from the people is very good. We wish to make Goa a festival destination and this year we are bringing some of the best jazz artistes to Goa.”
Roy also mentioned that they have been receiving good support from the Tourism department and through this event they wish to bring tourists to Goa.
The event will witness a special tribute to Madfingers conceived by Karan Joseph and Lindsay D’Mello, based on studio jams which the duo translated into two EPs titled ‘Its only music’. London-based guerrilla jazz band Kefaya an eclectic group of immigrant travellers and international artistes will also be participating for the festival. For the first time Swiss band ‘Pol Belardi’s Urban 5’ will also be performing at the GIJLF along with pianist Florian Favre and India-based Western vocalists, Vasundhara Vee. The event is organised by Teamwork Arts and Jazz India Circuit.
