Author, blogger and book enthusiast, Lin Thomas’ book titled ‘Every Sparrow was Made to Fly’ was featured recently at a book festival by Cascades Library in Sterling, Virginia. It is an inspirational children’s novel that showcases nostalgic memories of Goa. Narrated from the viewpoint of a 12-year-old child, the book attempts to help children face their challenges by listening to their inner voices. The book targets the age group of seven to 13 years.
Having grown up in St Inez and Porvorim, Thomas who is currently based in Virginia attributes her formative years of growing up in Goa as a strong inspiration for her book. Thomas is currently a senior programme manager with a large IT firm near Washington DC. “I authored the book, because I felt the need to share part of her childhood years in Goa, through a modern-day fantasy story that would appeal to younger kids,” she says. Illustrations in the book are by artist with Goan origins, Chitra Bhandare. A graduate from Goa College of Art, he has rendered realistic sketches of Goan scenes in the book.
Thomas also has stories published in Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul 2 and Preteens Talk, part of the NY Times best-selling series, published in over 32 languages and 100 countries. She also wrote for Project Management International (PMI). Thomas is currently working on a non-fiction for grownups and her next children’s fiction.
