Indian Panorama section: A platform for regional cinema

The Indian Panorama section of the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) featuring 26 feature and 21 non feature films was inaugurated by secretary of Information and Broadcasting, Amit Khare in the presence of festival director, Chaitanya Prasad and vice chairman, Entertainment Society of Goa, Rajendra Talak.

Speaking during the inaugural, festival director Chaitanya Prasad said that the Indian Panorama platform showcases and strengthens regional cinema of the country. “We wish to bring an amalgamation of good films. I congratulate the jury who have put in their best while selecting good films. We only requested them to give our audience a bouquet of good films and they have done a commendable job,” he said.

Khare also spoke how cinema in Jharkhand is taking shape and how filmmakers are motivated to make films. “The regional film industry is developing in Jharkhand and tribal artistes, filmmakers are coming forward to make films. This is indeed leading the industry to bloom,” Khare said.

Out of the 190 feature and 109 non feature films the jury selected 47 films, and acknowledging their efforts both feature and non feature jury members were felicitated.

Ponda-based director Aaditya Suhas Jambhale whose film ‘Kharvas’ was the opening film in the non feature film category spoke on how IFFI has been a platform that has helped his career evolve. He said: “Four years back I was in the queue waiting to watch films and today I am here with my film that will open the non-feature film section of Indian Panorama. This film is based on a real life inspiration. My team has been wonderful and they gave their best for this film.”

Shaji Karun’s Malayalam film ‘Olu’ was the opening film for the feature film category. The director, Karun thanked IFFI and said that all his movies have been screened at IFFI. “This film will be a premiere for my team as they have not seen the film on screen as it was not screened anywhere in Kerala but only screened at the Kolkata festival. I thank my cast for their work and dedication,” concluded Karun.
