New Delhi: India women’s team has made big strides in the FIFA rankings ladder moving up six places to the 57th position in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings.
India have impressively broken into the top sixty and are now ranked higher than giants Iran or Jordan. Indeed, Maymol Rocky’s side are now ranked 11th in the AFC ladder, much higher than sides like UAE or Philippines.
After the FIFA Women’s World Cup concluded with the United States retaining the title, sees them seal the top spot in the latest rankings. Finalists Netherlands have also hopped five places to make the top three, while Germany retain second place. Semi-finalists England have dropped down to fifth, while France have held their own in fourth, despite being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
The Indian women’s team have been in impeccable form in recent months, with a seven-match unbeaten streak in which they’ve won six games in compelling fashion, proving just how well Rocky’s done in making them a tough side to beat. After winning the SAFF Women’s
Championship in Nepal earlier this year in dominant fashion, India also won two out of their three 2020 Olympics qualification games, but just missed out on qualification due to an inferior goal-difference than hosts Myanmar.
