The department of Mass Media, Don Bosco College organised an ‘In Conversation’ session on July 19 advertising film maker, Bipin Khedekar who has directed several award winning films like ‘Shalya’, ‘The Guest’ and ‘Nalika’.
The audience were also joined by a film editor, Siddhesh Naik who has worked on films like ‘Amizade’ and ‘Juze’.
Speaking on the occasion, manager Fr Wilfred Fernandes emphasised on the importance of such sessions for the students.
The ad films made by Khedekar were also screened during the session. The screenings included the traffic awareness advertisements and clips from the three films Shalya, Nalika and The Guest. It was followed by a lively interactive session with the students.
The four key points given by Khedekar included self awareness, creative imagination, will power and consciousness. He described the infinite value to creativity, saying that there are no limits or GST put on our minds and nothing can stop us from imagining.
Sharing ideas and opinions on editing, Naik said: “A good editor builds a story”. Editing doesn’t include technical knowledge alone, but creating a structure based on the story of the film. He also explained the steps for editing: syncing, assembling, first cut, director’s cut and the final cut.
Bipin and Naik also pointed out the realities involved in the film making process which made the students realise that beyond the world of glamour, there is a lot of struggle and hard work involved.
