The last Friday evening saw the coming together of three friends who presented an intelligent performance of western classical music at Kala Academy as part of the T-N-T (Tri Nation Trio) concert.

The concert featured three young girls—Sabine Ehlshedit from Germany on the viola, Lin Lin Fan from China on the piano and Sanya Cotta from Goa on the violin. They may be from different countries and cultures but the passion for music bonds them. They are now hoping to perform together more often.

“It is for the first time that we performed in front of such an audience. Sabine and I have performed together for a house concert. But, this is for the first time that we performed together before a large number of people” says Sanya looking very content after the performance which was well received.

“We really enjoyed playing in front of such huge audience. It indeed brought joy and it was nice to see people coming to meet and congratulate us after the show,” says a satisfied Lin Lin.

This type of concert requires tremendous amounts of concentration and most importantly co-ordination. But, for these girls it was quite easy as they have been friends for so many years. “Actually I know Sabine and Lin Lin for around four years and have also performed with Sabine on a few occasions. So, we just thought of this concept,” adds Sanya.

Sanya who has performed in different parts of the world believes that Goans have lot of potential but there is a need to develop it. She is now busy preparing for an orchestra which will be held in Germany and simultaneously is also completing her masters, to scale new highs.

“It is very important to learn more about what you learn. That’s the reason I went abroad to learn more about music” says Sanya. She also states that having the support of your family is very important. “It was easy for me as my father is also into music. So, I could take my passion forward and learn more about music” says Sanya who believes that she still has a long way to go before she can earn more laurels.

But till then she is enjoying her free time with her musical friends at her residence. Sabine and Lin Lin who are new to Goa are now ready to explore the place. “Whenever I am in Goa, I am tied up with concerts and practice and thus really don’t get chance. But, now we are hoping to catch up” says Sabine.

But, what do these girls do when they are not busy with music? The answer comes. ‘Cooking’. “I used to never cook before. But, as I had to stay away from home, I started cooking and now I cook a lot in my spare time,” elaborates Sanya.

Sabine, unlike most of the Europeans loves spicy Indian food. “And she makes better fish curry than me” quips Sanya.  “Cooking like music is very creative,” the trio say in unison before signing off.
