As the part of teacher’s day celebration, the education cell of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee felicitated six best teachers in state.

The function was held at the GCCI hall-Panaji. The Education Cell of GPCC is organising such a function for the second consecutive year.

The function started with the invocation song by the students of People’s Higher Secondary School. A photo of Dr Late Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India was garlanded at the hands of president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Subhash Shirodkar.

The teacher’s honoured on the occasion by Mr Shirodkar were Mr Ashok Kumar Desai from Mallikarjun High School-Canacona, Mr Ramkrishna Halarnkar from Deep Vihar Higher Secondary-Mormugao, Ms Romana Crasto from Almeida High School-Ponda, Mr Avdhut Kamat from Navy Joeldo Aguiar Higher Secondary-Ponda, Mr Pradeep Dhulapkar from Mahananda G Naik Memorial High School, Bhoma and Ravidra Fogeri from St Xavier’s Higher Secondary-Mapusa.

The chief guest for the function, Mr Subhash Shirodkar said, “Perhaps, India is the only country that celebrates Teachers Day. This day is celebrated in the memory of Late Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.”

Mr Shirodkar has called upon people to unite for the development of the nation. He remarked saying teachers play an important role in bringing changes in the society, thus teachers are needed. “Because of the influence they wield of tender minds, teachers play a major role in shaping children’s future,” stated Mr Shirodkar.    

Present on the occasion were president of Education Cell, Mr Raghunath Gawas, secretary of Education Cell, Mr Pradeep Sawant and general secretary, GPCC Mr Altinho Gomes.
