On August 1, after the first novena Mass of patron St Lawrence in the Parish church of Agacaim, Fr Johnsie Colaco parish priest blessed the newly made 1m 6 inches image of St Lawrence the Martyr with the saint's relic (very small piece of bone), which is preserved in the church.
The image of the saint carved out of teakwood within 15 days by Rosario Rodrigues in July 2010, was inspected by fine artists, wood carvers, historians, priests and local people, who approved of the final outcome.
Immediately after the blessing the image was taken to fly to UK, where it will be kept at the Holy Rood Church in Swindon to celebrate the feast of the Patron Saint. Many villagers from Agacaim have migrated to Swindon and they celebrate the feast of their Patron annually there. The image is offered by Erasmo Gonsalves of Moita.
This year the feast is going to celebrate on August 14.
