PANAJI: To commemorate the inclusion of Konknni in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) had organised a function at Margao on August 20. The second edition of ‘Sonvsara Bhonvtim Yontram’, a book on science by late Fr Antonio Francisco Sousa, and ‘Sopon’, a series of 10 plays by Mr James Fernandes were released at the function.
The chief guest for the day was Konknni activist Mr Antonio da Piedade Morais, who congratulated Mr James Fernandes on the occasion, and requested the gathering to preserve Konknni, the symbol of Goan identity. He also congratulated DKA for working relentlessly for the development of Konknni in Roman script under the presidency of Mr Premanand A Lotlikar.
On this occasion Mr Lotlikar said the Akademi while working for the development of Konknni in Roman script has nothing against Devnagari, for "we want the development of Konknni in both the scripts."
DKA secretary Jose Salvador Fernandes spoke on the book ‘Sonvsara Bhonvtim Yontram’ and Mr Sanjay Talwadkar spoke on the book ‘Sopon’.
DKA treasurer Thomas C Fernandes welcomed the gathering and Ms Fatima D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Mr Cosma Fernandes compered the function.
At the end of the function, a play from the book Sopon was staged.
