Goan Priest bags International Student Scientist Award

PANAJI: Fr Allan Tavares sfx has been selected to receive the international Student Scientist Award for the study of acoustics in India.
Fr Tavares, a priest of the Pilar Society, will be presented a grant award certificate by the Acoustical Society of America

Committee for International Research and Education (ASA/CIRE) in collaboration with the Acoustical Society of the Netherlands (NAG) and the International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration (IIAV).
Fr Tavares has submitted his doctoral thesis in Physics entitled ‘Acoustical studies of Worship spaces’ to the Nagpur University in June 2009.
He has presented research papers on Worship Acoustics in Goan churches at the International Congress of Acoustics (ICA), Madrid in 2007, International Symposium of Room Acoustics (ISRA), Seville in 2007, International Congress on Noise and Vibrational Control (INTER-NOISE), Shanghai in 2008, INTER-NOISE in Ottawa, Canada in 2009, and EURO- NOISE 2009, Edinburg, Scotland.
Recently his paper ‘Acoustic Characterisation of Sacred Music rendered by a Human Whistle at the Divine Providence Church in Goa, India’ has been accepted for presentation at the international Congress of Acoustics (ICA 2010) at Sydney, Australia.
Fr Tavares, presently working with the tribals of Arunachal Pradesh, is on a 20-day visit to Goa to arrange a student exchange program.
