Cyrus Sahukar, famous for his satirical comedy shows and spoofs, is now sharing the big screen with Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol in the yet-to-be-released movie, ‘Aisha.’ In a candid telephonic conversation with ‘The Navhind Times’ he shares his experience, fear and desires.
Cyrus Sahukar, who made his presence felt as an MTV VJ is now busy promoting his latest Bollywood movie, ‘Aisha’ starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol. Excited about his new movie, Cyrus calls the shooting experience more of fun than work.
Interestingly, the film is being releasing on his birthday, August 6. “It is a miracle. All my birthday plans are strained. But, at the same time I am feeling great as I can save money on the birthday cake, as now someone will get me a cake,” quips Cyrus.
Speaking more about his role in the movie, he says, “My character in ‘Aisha’ is Randhir Gambhir, a name which is quite a tongue twister. He belongs to Delhi’s high society and comes from a business family. This role is quite different from my previous roles, like in ‘Delhi 6’ where I portrayed a person whose life is a struggle.”
Cyrus’s earlier movies like ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Delhi 6’ saw him playing characters who hail from Delhi. Coincidentally Cyrus is a Delhi bred boy. So was it easy for him to portray these characters? He says, “Yes, I do have an idea of what Delhi is all about. Being brought up in Delhi I am familiar with the characteristics of certain characters.”
Not all the scenes in his latest film were as simple as they seemed. Cyrus was quite petrified when he realised that some of his scenes would include driving a four-wheeler. “During the making of the movie I didn’t realise that I would have to drive. And when I told my director that I can’t drive, she almost got a heart attack. But, then I had to join driving classes and do that scene,” narrates Cyrus who has now overcome his fear of driving.
‘Aisha’ is a desi adaptation of ‘Emma’, a novel by Jane Austen and is based on the story of four girl friends and their love interest. Interestingly, the movie is being produced and directed by woman.
When asked about this gang of girls, Cyrus promptly adds, “All through the shoot we were out numbered and dominated by the girls as almost the entire cast and crew comprised of girls. They had interesting things to talk about like hair and make up. It is nice when you are surrounded by girls,” laughs Cyrus.
Cyrus who is just a few movies old is interested in playing the role of a villain. “I am always fascinated by negative characters. During my childhood whenever I used to watch any film I used to think that the villain is the one who is having the most enjoyable role to play. The villain only gets a beating in the last 20 minutes of the film whereas the hero has to go through a lot of hardship through a major part of the film,” opines Cyrus.
Along with movies he plans on continuing with his TV work as he is producing and creating his own shows on MTV. One of the shows on the anvil includes the famous ‘Semi Girebaal’, where Cyrus will be seen mimicking the actress of yesteryears, Simi Garewal. “It was really a successful show. I used go half-mad being a woman. I think it was the only show that beat the original show,” quips Cyrus.
By now, it is turning out to be extremely tough having serious conversation with Cyrus who always has something funny to say. In continuation of his humorous side, Cyrus is busy scripting a ‘mocumentary’- a comic series.
