An exhibition to mark the 500th birth anniversary of the great Portuguese adventurer and explorer of the 16th century and writer, Fernão Mendes Pinto will be held at the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Alto Porvorim, on September 9 at 5.30 p.m.
The exhibition will be inaugurated at the hands of the Consul General of Portugal in Goa, Dr Paulo Neves Pocinho.
The 24 panels to be exhibited are based on the book Peregrinação by Fernão Mendes Pinto. The exhibition has been conceptualised by professor at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon and the present president of Instituto Camões, Portugal, Prof Dr Ana Paula Laborinho. The illustrations are by João Fazenda.
Dr Delfim Correia da Silva, Director CLP/Instituto Camões, Goa will present the panels.
On September 16 at 5.30 p.m. the director of Fundação Oriente, India, Arch Eduardo Kol de Carvalho will deliver a talk entitled ‘St. Francis Xavier and Fernão Mendes Pinto, Pioneers of Globalisation and Ecumenism in Japan’.
On September 17 at 6.00 p.m. there will be a screening of ‘Os Olhos da Ásia’, a film directed by João Mario Grilo, followed by an open discussion.
All the events will be held at the premises of Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Alto Porvorim.
