ChowguleCollege bags ‘Best College Award’

Smt Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao was awarded with the ‘Best College Award’ at the Concluding Silver Jubilee Function of the Goa University Foundation Day held recently at Kala Academy, Panaji,

The Award was presented by the Governor of Goa and Chancellor of Goa University, Dr S S Siddhu in the presence of the first Vice-Chancellor of Goa University Dr Shaikh Ali, the incumbent Vice- Chancellor, Dr Deobhagkar, Chief Minister, Mr Digambar Kamat, Member of Planning Commission, Dr Narendra Jadhav, Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, Mr Pratapsinh Rane, Registrar of Goa University, Dr Sangodkar.


Dr Ramesh Gaonkar, Principal of Smt Parvatibai Chowgule College, said that the ‘Best College Award’ was rewarded to the college on the Seven Criteria’s set-up designed by the Goa University and was adjudged by a panel of judges on the following criteria’s.


The first criteria the college was based on Curricular Aspects. Dr Gaonkar elaborated saying “the College has introduced BA in Psychology and B Sc in Bio-Technology, in the Post Graduate curriculum M A in Geography and M Sc in IT, in the Post-Graduate Diploma courses, Diploma in Human Genetics and Pathological Technology and PG Diploma in Geo Informatics”.


The second criteria consisted of Teaching and Learning. The college has introduced an E-Learning programme known as the Chowgule Learn Anytime Any Place (CLAAP). Here lecture notes are made available on the college website.


The third criterion was Research and Extension Activities. The college gives various opportunities to its faculty members to carry on their further studies in Post-Doctorate Research abroad apart from the chance of attending national and international seminars. Faculty member of Computer Science, Dr Animesh Adhikari through this forum got the opportunity to write his book ‘Developing Multi Database for Mining Applications’, which is a published by Springer UK-London Edition.


The fourth criteria the college was judged was for Students Support and Progression. The college has introduced an ‘Earn while you learn scheme’ for needy students. The College also offers various courses for students and offers facilities like a Writing Centre, Personal Grooming Course, The Tiger Sports Centre- which is a state of art centre in the premises. There is also free internet facility through WiFi provided.


The fifth criterion was Management & Governance. The college management especially the Chowgule Education Society takes a keen interest in providing the state of art infrastructure and support to the staff. The team centre leadership technique is used by the Management along with Pro-Style Leadership approach. The college had a tie-up with institutions abroad under the student and faculty exchange programme.


In the sixth criteria of Innovative Practices, it included with various innovative programmes specialising in Human Genetics, Geo Informatics. The college is planning in the future to start an M Sc course in analytical chemistry. The final criterion was Infrastructure.
