Vani Tripathi, member of the steering committee for the International Film Festival of India 2014, is interested in using the mega film event for marketing of Indian films as much as it is being used for screening the best of films from around the globe.
“Cannes is not just used for holding the Cannes Film Festival, but also ensures that the film festival provides a market to international cinema”, said Tripathi. “Similarly, IFFI should also be sensitive about trade, production and commerce of cinema.”
Speaking to ‘NT BUZZ’, Tripathi, who has acted in films like ‘Chalte Chalte’ and ‘Dushman’ said that she is very happy that Goa has become the permanent venue for IFFI, and next year, the steering committee would ensure best of global interface for the film festival. “If you look at the large audience connect through global cinema, new things are now emerging in this sphere as also global interface. And IFFI also stands for this interface”, she said
“IFFI is not just Bollywood films, and we have to understand this aspect first”, Tripathi said, “Therefore, we have showcased the best of films from all over the country, including Marathi films and those from the North-Eastern region.”
“I am well aware of the dangers of indulging in looking at only Bollywood films, and therefore the steering committee has a spectrum of Indian films for participants of this festival”, she said.
Tripathi was also happy that internet space was being used to promote IFFI, this year. “Internet space is buzzing with IFFI 2014”, she said, “We have a twitter handle team and a cinema blog for IFFI.”
Tripathi, who is also on the core group that handled the opening ceremony of the film festival this year along with Indian filmmaker Bharat Bala and leading Indian ad film director Prahlad Kakkar, said that the opening ceremony was appreciated for many reasons right from the décor to the cultural event to the inaugural film, ‘The President’.
“We also had an excellent selection of films, interesting Master Classes, and tributes to departed masters including Richard Attenborough”, Tripathi said. In fact, we had produced a special film for the occasion that presented glimpses from the life of Attenborough, she said.
