DULER: IFA (West Bengal) struggled before they scored a solitary-goal win over holders Odisha to enter the semis of the Junior Girls National Football Championship, organised by GFA, at Duler stadium, here on Monday.
Holders Odisha were the better side. However, luck was not on their side as they missed number of scoring opportunities with their strikers failing to put the ball inside the goal.
In the 25th minute, a scorching right footer from Manisha Naik rebounded of the IFA post and the ball travelled to Jasoda Munda, who shot wide. On crossing over, in the 61st minute, a low cross by IFA’s medio Padma Mandi saw overlapping Devneta Roy beat the onrushing Odisha keeper Sanjukta Tirkey with a neat placement.
Down by a goal, Odisha time and again attacked the rival citadel but failed to score.
In the 86th minute, Manisha sent a square pass to unmarked Soni Behera but the latter failed to connect the ball inside an open goal.
In the morning quarterfinal match, Tamil Nadu trounced Bihar 12-0 to make it to the semifinals.
Tamil Nadu were leading 8-0 margin during the lemon break.
Mariyammal B did most of the damage scoring five goals, with Santhiya NV (2), Iswarya S (2), Durga A, Priyadhardshini S and Minnoliya S scored the other goals. NT
