Are you one of those individuals that thinks they know everything about Goa–right from its cuisine to culture and from personality to politics? If your answer is yes, you should join in the ‘Second Chandrakant Keni Memorial Goa Quiz’ that will be held on May 30 at Hotel Mandovi, Panaji.
The quiz hosted by quizmaster, Mr Harshvardhan Bhatkuly in memory of eminent writer and journalist, Late Chandrakant Keni is is actually a medium to pay respect to Late Keni for his contribution to Goa. Thus, it is held on May 30–Goa Statehood Day. “This event is in the memory of my father-in-law and this is the second year of the quiz,” added Bhatkuly.
“He (Chandrakant Keni) was a great lover of Goa who was actively involved in various important developments like the Goa’s freedom struggle, winning of Opinion Poll, recognition of Konkani as a state language etc. So keeping these things in mind, I thought of a quiz based on Goa as I am actively into quizzing,” confirms Bhatkuly.
This quiz is free and is open to people from all age groups. The only requirement is a team of two armed with everything there is to know about Goa.
There is no prior registration for this quiz as people can walk in to participate. In the first round, the team will have to answer 25 questions based on Goa. Out of this only six teams will be selected for the second round where they will come across seven rounds of questions.
The quiz should not be misunderstood as an easy one where you will get basic questions. It is woven with some intricate questions that will surely test your knowledge levels. However Bhatkuly confirms that it is loaded with fun while at the same time very educative.
For this quiz, Bhatkuly along with his research team has made a bank of around 300 questions, which are purely based on Goa. The other interesting part is that they have a tradition of never repeating or reframing their questions. “It is our policy that we never repeat our questions. Our questions are based on Goa’s life, personalities, politics, cuisine, art, culture and anything related to Goa,” he remarks.
He also mentioned that the day-to-day instances also give him scope to frame his questions. “The actual work for this quiz may start two months prior. But, in my mind I am constantly working. Whenever I get any interesting information, I just note it down,” quips Bhatkuly. He also assured that they totally avoid popular fiction and back their information with research and facts.
The second Chandrakant Keni Memorial Goa Quiz will be held on May 30 at Hotel Mandovi in Panjim, from 3 p.m. onwards.
