The Directorate of Art and Culture, Panaji recently organised a matoli competition during Ganesh Chaturthi. The department every year organises the contest with an objective to preserve and promote the age-old tradition of the matoli.

This year individual households participated in the matoli dekhawa competition. The competition was judged by Prof Rajendra Kerkar, Sudesh Vaze and Dias Hazare. 
Mr Rama Foti Gaonkar, (Satre-Sattari) emerged victorious at the competition, while the
2nd and 3rd prizes went to Mr Rupesh Poinginkar (Poinguinim-Canacona) and Mr Mahadeo S Gaonkar (Netravali, Sanguem-Goa) respectively.
Mr Shailesh V Gaonkar (Velkas-Savoi Verem), Mr Ankush Ozarekar (Bambar, Nanoda-Sattari), Mr Ramakant D Gaonkar (Gothawada, Betoda), Mr Sameer K Talekar (Betki-Ponda), Mr Avinash B Gaude (Kunkolim, Mardol), Mr Rohidas H Velip (Netravali, Sanguem-Goa) and Mr Chintamani A Talawanekar (Wardand-Pednem, Goa) won consolation prizes for their efforts.
The department will inform the winners of the date and venue of the prize distribution ceremony separately.
