If you are of the notion that karate is basically meant for self defence and the best time to learn is during one’s teens, then think again. A new tribe comprising of adults are all set to learn Karate not only to for defence purpose, but also for their physical fitness.
The hard and fast life of people in their 20’s spend much of their time working in front of the computer, straining their back and overloading their mind with stress. But now there is a solution to help beat physical and mental strain.
Mr Joseph Rodrigues from Panaji who has more than 30 years of experience in karate under his belt is conducting special karate classes for adults, starting from today.
“There is always a preconceived notion that you can only teach karate to kids. But, now I am focusing on adults mainly in the age group of 25-30 years who can take up karate as a means to keep themselves fit. The classes will focus more on stretching, body toning, back exercises and also cardio exercise that is modified ‘kata’ in karate. Along with it, he is also working on concept workouts like Katarobics etc.
Mr Rodrigues is starting a full time batch from today and is conducting two classes at Basilios Fitness Centre, St Inez, Panaji. These classes will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6.15 a.m. for adults (both men and women) and 8 a.m. that is exclusively for ladies.
“For ladies batch, focus will be on self defence as I think they need to defend themselves more than anyone else. Thus, these classes are targeting not just working women but in fact all women. In the classes, participants will also get knowledge about fitness and cardio” adds Mr Rodrigues.
