Juino De Souza, a businessman turned lawyer from Socorro is now trying his hand in writing. He has just finished writing ‘The Goan Voice of Reason’.
The book will be launched by chief minister, Mr Digambar Kamat on September 3 at the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Porvorim at 5.30 p.m.
This book is actually a compilation of articles written by Mr De Souza and which have appeared in various local English dailies for the past eight years. It contains 75 articles which are based on various topics ranging from politics to education.
Mr De Souza believes that his articles are a source for social reforms. “My articles analysed problems rather than just blaming people and the system and even offers suggestions. Like, when I wrote about the issues of senior citizens in Goa and suggested that Goa should have its own law for elders, the government worked on it. I have also written on issues like neutral gender law, an issue which is currently before the Parliament,” states Mr De Souza.
He is of the opinion that people do not take articles written in newspapers too seriously. “The problem with newspaper is that it is not read by everyone and it is perishable. But a book is handy and people can read it according to their leisure time,” adds Mr De Souza who is also hosts various shows on local news channels.
When asked why he thinks people should buy his book, he promptly replied, “This book is about Goa and its issues and it is written by a Goan,” says Mr De Souza who was born and brought up in Mumbai but after retirement came to Goa in the year 1998. Mr De Souza is hoping this book will be a stepping stone for him in his ambition of writing more books. In fact, he has already contemplating on a second book and is working towards it. “I am writing a book on Goa and about its past, present and future” concludes Mr De Souza.
