The Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa recently organised a state level dekhawa competition in collaboration with M/s Waman Hari Pethe Jewellers-Mumbai for during Ganesh Chaturthi 2010.
The main objective of this competition was to promote the art of presenting tradition three dimensional scenes on mythological, historical stories and events, which are locally termed as ‘dekhawa’.
This year, 15 sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals participated in the competition.
Mr Nagesh Sardesai, Mr Hitesh Pankar and Mr Aadhi Vishal were the judges for the competition.
Mallinath Sports and Kala Mandal (Marcel) emerged the winners, while Kala Yuvak Sangh (Tonkwada, Juven, Tiswadi-Goa) and Sangampur Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal (Bus stand, Sanguem-Goa) won 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Consolation prizes wee also awarded to Vithal Saunskrutik Mandal (Vithal Temple, Marcel-Goa), Marutigad Sarvajanik Ganapati Saiti, (Mala-Panaji), Mashel Kala Premi (Marcel-Goa), Young Boys of Boca de Vaca (Boca de Vaca, Panaji) Thapnesh Sanskrutik Mandal (Thapanwada, Cumbharjua), Ram Mandir Devasthan Committee (Cumbarjua-Goa).
This year M/s Waman Hari Pethe Jewellers (Mumbai) a private firm to sponsored this dekhawa competition and it is for the 1st time that a firm is collaborating to organize dekhawa competition by which it will boost the moral of the participants.
The department will inform the winners of the date and venue of the prize distribution ceremony.
