Daniel Pearl World Music Days comes to Goa

There will be a tribute concert to celebrate the ninth Daniel Pearl World Music Days on September 23 at 7 p.m. at Kala Academy, Miramar, Panaji, Goa. The event is being organised by the American Center Mumbai in association with Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM. The groups which will be performing are Hipnotribe and The Mavyns.

This concert is held in honor of American journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, slain in Pakistan, on January 30, 2002. Daniel Pearl World Music Days is designed to raise awareness and promote tolerance and understanding of our shared humanity. An accomplished musician, Pearl connected with people through music in every country. World Music Days will commemorate his life and work by using the universal language of music to spread a message of hope, unity and harmony for humanity.

Hipnotribe

Hipnotribe is a Mumbai-based group of multi-faceted musicians bringing in influences, sounds and styles from all over the world. The band spans a wide repertoire of sounds, a mix of acoustic and electronic instruments.

Musicians of the band are influenced by a wide range of international musicians and genres over the eras, while still in touch with their Indian roots. It is music best heard dancing, intended to stir, move and inspire those who play and listen to it.

The band members are Paresh Kamath on the guitars and vocals; Naresh Kamath on the  bass and vocals; Sanket Athale on the percussions; Kurt Peters on the drums; Sankarshan Kini on the guitar, flute, violin and vocals; Abhijit Nalani on the keyboards and Tejasvi Rao on the sound

The Mavyns

The band members of The Mavyns were going through their mundane jobs in Mumbai and they suddenly decided to go to Goa to record a demo album. The Mavyns set up shop at Kris’ place, a beautiful 100-year-old Portuguese bungalow. Few months of playing at the local Goan pubs got The Mavyns kick-started on their musical journey to rock stardom. They recorded 12 demos, all original music. The album’s name is Socegado Sessions. The band did a successful 4-city tour (titled Indieca) around the country with the Supersonics. They were nominated as Most Promising Indie Act 09 by Indiecision – India’s leading online resource for independent music, news and opinions. The band members include Vivek Nair on the keyboard/guitars/vocals; Pradeep Mathews on the lead guitar/vocals; Kristofor Paul Mendonca on the drums/percussionist/vocals and Varoon Nair on the bass player.
