Biodiversity research cell inaugurates “popular lecture series” at Carmel College

Celebrating the International Year of Biodiversity following the UN mandate, Carmel
College for Women organised a talk by Chennai-based eminent wildlife photographer, Mr Akhilesh Sahay.

The function was organised under the joint aegis of the Biodiversity Research Cell of the College and the Centre for Environment Education (CEE). The event also saw the launch of Mr Sahay’s second book on wildlife, titled “Glimpses from India’s Natural world”.
The chief guest, Mr Mahesh Shambhu deputy conservator, Forests of South Goa (DCF), whilst reviewing the book, praised the author for his high quality photographs and for having demystified the scientific texts. Also speaking on the occasion, the programme coordinator of CEE, Goa reflected on the decade-long partnership of his organisation with Carmel College.
Dr Sr Aradhana, principal, Carmel College, chaired the technical session of the programme. Dr Manoj Borkar, founder of the Biodiversity Research Cell introduced and welcomed the guests and Sr Jonily of the Zoology Department proposed the vote of thanks. Sharon Vijaykumar, a student of zoology compered the function.
Mr Sugeet Kumar unfolded the road-map of programmes to be organised during the year under this collaborative venture. On this occasion, Sr Lizanne, associate professor of the zoology department invoked the blessings of the Almighty on those gathered and wished the author well in all his future endeavours.
