The surprise hit of this year; ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ may be projected as a male dominated crime film, but the soul of the film is its female lead- The character of Shama Parveen played by debutant Anurita Jha who has an integral role to play in the second part of the film, that is releasing on August 8.
NT BUZZ caught up with this actor to discover what made Anurita choose such an unconventional film.
Why did you choose to make your debut with an unconventional movie like Gangs of Wasseypur (GOW)?
I think any film by Anurag Kashyap is a great opportunity to debut and I consider myself lucky to have been a part of this project.
Tell us something about your role in the movie?
Well my role has more impact in GOW II. My character Shama Parveen is the only link between both the rival families—Khan and Qureshi. She takes the story forward.
How easy or difficult was the whole process of acting for you? What preparations did you make for this role?
I thoroughly enjoyed the process of acting. Before we went on the sets, all of us had extensive daily workshops and rehearsals. So when we went on the sets we knew exactly what we were suppose to do.
You play a small town girl in the movie. How far you can relate to her?
Honestly, I am nothing like what Shama Parveen is. I am a city girl who loves to watch ‘Sex and the City’ and does all those things that a normal young city girl would do.
How was your experience working with acclaimed director Anurag Kashyap?
He is absolutely fabulous, crazy and passionate about films and I think all creative people are like that. He has a brilliant vision and I just love all his movies.
Do you think with these types of movies achieving success, this is the best time for upcoming actors in Bollywood?
I really think this is the best time to be in the Hindi film industry because all kinds of films are being made and the audiences are opening up and accepting this change, so it’s great.
