PANAJI: The Bharteeya Sanskriti Prabodhini’s Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and research centre, Vazem, Shiroda is organising AYUR VISION 2010, an unique exhibition that will cover almost all facets of Ayurveda, from September 6 till September 8 at the college premises.
Addressing a press conference in the city, the principal of the college, Dr Anura Bale informed that the exhibition, being organised for the first time, will highlight the Indian system of medicine and will give visitors an overview of the Ayurveda College and hospital. The idea behind the exhibition was to expose standard twelve students to a career option.
Twelve department of the college will showcase basic techniques adopted by them at the exhibition. The departments are: ‘Shareera’, the study of human body, understanding the anatomical and physiological concepts put forth by ancient Indian sciences, ‘Dravyaguna’, ancient Indian Pahrmacological concepts with more than 200 plants and 200 dry drug specimen on display, ‘Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana’, the ancient Indian alchemy, displaying equipments used by the Indians to convert various mineral and inorganic substances into bodily acceptable elements. It also displays methods of preparation and preservation of herbal and herbo-mineral products, ‘Agada Tantra’, will display ancient poisons and toxic substances and forensic medicine, ‘Swasthavritta’, the department of preventive and social medicine along with yoga, ‘Streerog, Prasuti Tantra and Balroga’, gynaecology, obstetrics and paediatrics in ayurveda, ‘Shalya Tantra’, displaying the ancient surgical and parasurgical techniques that are in vogue even today, ‘Shalakya Tantra’, describing the techniques and methods of treatment of eye, ear, nose and throat, ‘Rog Nidan’, pathology as understood by ayurveda, ‘Kayachikitsa and Panchakarma’, general medicine in ayurveda and Panchakarma the celebrated body cleansing procedures that are gaining worldwide popularity today, ‘Department of basic principles’, describing the study of various ancient Indian ayurveda texts and the understanding and applicability of this ancient Indian Philosophy and finally the department of career guidance.
Dr Bale further informed that the exhibition will also display the facilities available in the 110 bedded Ayurvedic hospital and the work done in speciality OPDs “Through this exhibition we are attempting to explain the science and philosophy of ayurveda to the modern scientific world and the reasons behind its survival and existence over the various cultural invasions India has witnessed.”
Professor and head of anatomy department, Dr Nilesh Korde mentioned that many a time people ask us for documentation and proof. There are various myths and in order give them the conscience of Ayurveda, the science behind the philosophy will be displayed to the modern world in this exhibition meant for the students as well as general public.
This science has survived for hundreds of years. People are not aware of the beneficial uses of plants and this is the reason we are loosing our bio diversity. The west is definitely looking up to this system of medicine, said Dr Korde.
The president of Bharteeya Sanskriti Prabodhini, Mr P K Ghate gave a brief explanation on the evolution of the college and efforts taken to set it up.
