Attire for Interviews

By Aroona Reejhsinghani

First impression is the last impression, is a famous saying when you go for your interview you should dress up properly. Portray the right body language so that you give your boss positive vibes about yourself.

Don’t look like a Christmas tree in your dress and makeup. Be very subtle in your appearance. Wear a light coloured dress which should be either salwaar kameez, pants and shirt or a saree. Do not wear low cut kurtas and blouses, this sends wrong signals to the boss. Always be decently dressed and never wear flimsy or see-through dresses, always wear dresses of thick materials so that your body is not on display.

If you want to dress in a skirt, the skirt should come below your knees and the top should be a shirt or a tee shirt with full sleeves. Always wear closed footwear and never flip flops or open chappals, you are not going for a walk with your friends you are going to an office for an interview.

Use minimum jewellery just plain pearl or gold tops in the ears, please no danglers in the ears, a plain chain around the neck, a ring on the finger and a bangle at one wrist and a watch at the other wrist and do not wear glass bangles that tinkle when you move your hands wear minimum of makeup - just a moisturiser, a dash of blush, an eyeliner and a soft shade of lipstick over your lips.

Wear nail enamel in pearl pink shade, on no condition wear chipped nail polish, it looks distasteful and therefore it is better to have bare nails then to have chipped nail polish on them. Never go over board with perfume, it is awful to be crammed in a space with some one who has used too much perfume many people do not like certain smells and some are even allergic to certain smells, therefore it is better to keep away from perfumes then to appear as a perfume factory.

Last but not the least keep a smile on your face, look confident and appear cheerful and perky like someone who is eager to work, nobody likes to work with a miserable looking person this sends bad vibes throughout the atmosphere. Besides keep a watch over your manners, do not scratch any part of your body do not bite finger nails, do not rub any part of your body, do not twist your ring or jewellery, do not finger your necklace, do not tap or swing your feet, sit straight like a lady with your legs crossed and your hands by your side, do not move them unnecessarily. Put on a smile and be sure they will not pass you by, the job will be yours.
