International Centre - Goa in association with Indian Ateliers, Goa, is having an art camp at the International Centre, Dona Paula where seven noted artists from the country will participate. Of these, two are from Goa.
The Art Camp that starts today will go on till September 28. Artists participating at this four day camp are Jagmohan Bangani and Somnath Dikpati from Delhi, Dinkar Jadhav and Ajay Deshpande from Pune, Swapnil Srivastava from Lucknow and Goa’s very own Viraj Naik and Harshada Kerkar.
All these artists have earned their reputation through sheer hard work and determination. And their works today have gained many admirers. Art collectors crave to own a piece produced from their creative mind and deft hands.
Jagmohan Bangani has earned his post graduate degree in painting from the Winchester School of Art, Winchester, United Kingdom. He had a solo show in 2008 titled ‘Tapestry of Words’ under the Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program at the Palm Court Gallery, IHC New Delhi besides other solo shows.
He has been a participant in numerous group shows like ‘Pop- Up Art’ by IMA Foundation at Redmanta and ‘Moving Patterns’ at the Royal Geographical Society, London, United Kingdom besides ‘Childhood Memories’ by Voyager at the Gallery Slaturshisid, Eglisstadir, Iceland and others like Busan Indian Ink Painting Biennale, Busan, South Korea and 73rd & 82nd Annual Art Exhibition of All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) New Delhi, India.
His works are in collection at the Maxmuler Bhawan, New Delhi; National Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi; Dhoomimal Art Gallery, New Delhi and many private collections in India, USA, Australia, Korea and the UK.
Dinkar Jadhav is a trained artist from the famed Abhinav Kala Mahvidyalaya from Pune. He had his solo shows at the Art Desh Gallery and Art Plaza in Mumbai besides Khushabu Art Gallery and Balgandharva Kala Dalan in Pune. He has received notable awards from The Bombay Art Society, Art Society of India, V V Oak Award and the Maharashtra State Art Award.
Like fellow Puneite, Ajay Deshpande is a trained artist from the same institute. He has had solo shows at Nag Foundation, Ray Art Gallery, and Balgandharva Kala Dalan, Pune besides others. He has been honored with numerous awards and scholarships.
Somnath Dikpati, a master in fine arts from the Banaras Hindu University, has received Camlin watercolour award besides many other honors. He has participated in many group shows in Chandigarh organised by the Lalit Kala Academy and has worked with some of the noted advertising agencies like Ogilvy & Mather and others besides reputed NGOs.
Swapnil Srivastava has earned her Master in Visual Arts with merit from the college of Arts and Crafts, Lucknow. She has been awarded scholarship from the State Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow. She has participated in group as well as institutional shows.
Viraj Naik has masters in printmaking from the University of Hyderabad. He has had numerous solo shows at noted art galleries, in India and other countries, to his credit. Some of his paintings were exhibited at the Apparao galleries, Chennai; Visual Arts Centre, Hong Kong; Pundole Art gallery, Mumbai; Travancore Palace and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
He has participated in several exhibitions in India and abroad that includes 7th Bienal Internacional de ex-libris, Zacatecas, Mexico.2010; 10th International miniature art biennial, Ville Marie, Quebec, Canada. 2010; 2nd International prints for peace, Monterrey, Mexico.2009 and many others in countries ranging from Romania, Bulgaria, Thailand, USA and India.
Viraj has received scholarship and awards at the state, national and the international level. He has been honoured by the ministry of art and culture, Goa with Yuva Kala Srujan Puraskar.
Harshada Kerkar did her BA in painting from the SNDT, Mumbai and began painting full time since then. Having received her formal lessons in art from her father, the noted artist late C Kerkar, Harshada experimented and explored. She did extensive study and drawings of human figures. Local tribes and common people on the street drew her attention.
She is famous for her portraits that have life in it. Even though she favours dry pastels, she has been working with oils, acrylics and other media as well. Her recent works have begun having abstract forms in them which again goes along with her standard style.
The art camp is open for people to visit and watch the artists in action. Art students and enthusiasts are free to interact with the participants.
