Goa Chitra’s Jazz and Visual Show Enthralls a Packed Audience

A programme aptly titled “Come to Your Senses” was held at the Goa Chitra museum at Benaulim. This show forms part of Goa Chitra’s ongoing series to showcase Goa’s brilliant artistes and raise funds for the museum.

The talented Goa Jazz junction with vocalist Yvonne Gonsalves, pianist Darryl Rodrigues, bass player Collin D’ Cruz, and drummer Lester Godinho complemented German saxophonist, Bernard Schmidt to present Goa’s jazz lovers with some well-known and much loved favourites as well as some great Bossa including “The Girl from Ipanema” which Goans have adopted as their own. Yvonne captured the spirit of the songs but infused them with something of her own. Her daughter Sharon enchanted the audience with an impromptu performance and her smoky vocals. Collin’s exquisite guitar work, combined with the smooth, hot jazz of Bernard and the intricate piano work of Darryl helped to make this night in palm studded Benaulim, a magical one.

South Goa’s doctor-troubadour, Dr Francisco Colaco was at his best when he showcased his Bossa Nova talent with Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Agua de Beber”.

Viktor Hugo Furiani, a visual arts jockey from France enhanced the ambiance of the star-lit evening with spectacular visuals projected on a large screen that served as a background for the Jazz function and its cool rhythms.

Another pre-dinner treat included a global fusion dance performance by French dancer Marion Urban who perfectly blended various global dance forms with yogic asanas and aided by Viktor Hugo’s funky background visuals gave a fluid, energetic show full of creative floor work, strength and flexibility.
