Ideas galore at TedxPanaji

The third edition of TedxPanaji with the theme #Hacked witnessed a packed Kala Academy auditorium on April 28. The day-long event saw 12 brilliant speakers sharing their innovative ideas and hacks to success in 18-minute sessions each. 

Yuva de Shiroda, a dhol taaso fusion band, kicked things off with a lively performance. The first session for the day was by media person, lawyer and mediation advocate Jonathan Rodrigues who stated that people should rethink their decision to directly go to court over their various issues and suggested that a much effective method in the settlement of issues is mediation. The next talk was by author, poet and artist Frederika Menezes who is differently-abled, and who received a standing ovation for her inspiring and optimistic words.

The second session saw educator, innovator and entrepreneur Chetan Solanki speak about his project, namely, The Solar Urja Lamp project that works towards supplying solar-powered lamps to villages that have no access to electricity and trains women to repair these.

Speed cuber Affan Kutty spoke about his journey while also simultaneously arranging letters out of the Rubik’s cubes to spell out TedxPanaji. He then proceeded to arrange the cubes blindfolded this time to spell out Goa. Biophysicist Roop Malik elaborated on the working of the cells in the human body in an especially enlightening session, while Mrs India Earth, Body Fit Diksha Chhabra shared her journey from being overweight to fit and how she battled spells of depression. Industry designer and inventor Deepak Pathania ended the session with his talk on why instead of DIY pr ojects, the trend should move to TIY – Thinking It Yourself.

Post lunch, the audience was given a chance to feature on the ‘red dot’ wherein individuals could present their idea to the crowd in a span of 30 seconds. Three of the best speakers from the TedxUnplugged event which was held two days prior also presented their talks on interesting themes like artificial intelligence and sustainable menstruation.

The third session began with IAS officer Ashutosh Pednekar speaking about using novel initiatives to tackle various public issues like transport while Greg Acuna discussed the importance of kindness and on creating games based on this theme. Sanskrit scholar Sampadananda Mishra acquainted the audience with the beauty and fluidity of the Sanskrit language. Young scientist mathematician and innovator Mohammed Suhail Chinya Salimpasha spoke about how he conceptualised the idea of a simple protein test.

Co-founder of Gegadyne Energy Jubin Varghese spoke about creating electric cars and better batteries. Padma Shri and noted fashion designer Wendell Rodricks shared his tips to achieve all your dreams while musician Anuja Kamat spoke about what it is that distinguishes the various kinds of music from each other.

The event also had an experience zone where guests could try out art forms like Mandryo weaving and coconut palm leaves weaving. There was also a start up zone where entrepreneurs showcased what they are all about.
