With an aim to promote tourism in the State, Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) on Saturday launched hop-on hop-off two double decks and two high deck bus services which will cover 19 sightseeing spots in Panaji and adjoining areas.

“The double decker sightseeing tours will be a big attraction in the State not only for tourists but locals as well. Such new facilities will also give recognition to the state. This novel initiative will add one more feather to GTDC’s cap and I am extremely confident that it will drive in more tourists and success for Goa Tourism,” said Tourism Minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar at the launch function held in Panaji.

He proposed that the Hop-on-Hop off bus service should start from the underused Multi Level Car Parking (MLCP) located at Patto as it will enable tourists and locals to park their vehicles and also it will not cause traffic congestion.

Azgaonkar after the sightseeing tour said that there is a need to prune more branches of trees so as to ensure safety and convenience of the passengers.

Commenting on the Hop-on-Hop off double decker bus which was used by the department of fire services to trim tree branches, the chairman of GTDC Nilesh Cabral said, “Physically till we carry out the exercise by actually operating the bus, the branches which were falling within the height of the bus could not be identified hence we carried out the exercise and the branches was chopped off as we cannot measure the distance with tape.”

He further said that the department will soon launch the much awaited amphibian bus.

The mayor of the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) Surendra Furtado urged the GTDC official to install sliding steps in the hop-on-hop off buses to facilitate easy access to differently able and senior citizens.
