Hindi Department of DCT’s Vasantrao Dempo Higher Secondary School of Science, Commerce and Arts, Cujira celebrated ‘Hindi Divas’. A one-day workshop was also conducted for Hindi teachers in Goa.
Chief guest for the inaugural function was administrator of Dempo Charities Trust, Rajesh Bhatikar while guest of honour was visiting faculty of the District Institute of Education and Training, Porvorim, Hafifa Khwaja.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhatikar urged teachers to inculcate the reading habit among students by setting a spark which would allure them towards reading in different languages.
Khwaja commented that Hindi language has simple phonetics which are easy to understand and pronounce. She also spoke about the growing popularity of the Hindi language through television and cinema.
Senior teacher Sumedha Kamat Desai was felicitated at the hands of the chief guest for being awarded the national award for the best teacher at Delhi. Teacher Sanjay Naik was also felicitated for being elected as the Teachers’ representative North-Goa at the Goa Board elections, 2017.
Principal Rupa Khope said language is the medium of communication and preservation of culture. She also prepared a presentation on a poem by Harivarsh Rai Bachchan.
The inauguration was followed by the workshop sessions by assistant professor at Dada Vaidhya Institute of Education, Ponda, Sunil Kumar Singh, associate professor at St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, Ramita Gurav and lecturer, Jyothi Kulkarni at Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Verna.
