Parra: The hearing into the petition filed by Parra farmers against the installing of high tension overhead 33kva wires from over their fields has been posted for Friday by the High Court of Bombay at Goa. The Calangute panchayat has intervened in the matter requesting the court to permit the works as people in the beach belt, who are suffering due to erratic power supply, will get relief after execution of the
Parra farmers are objecting the works tooth and nail. The electricity department had on Monday installed 5 poles and on Tuesday some more poles were laid but the cyclonic rains hampered the work as it has become difficult to move vehicles in the fields which are damp, claimed some Parra farmers.
The High Court of Bombay had admitted the farmers’ petition on Monday evening and had kept the matter for hearing on Tuesday morning. But the Calangute sarpanch Shawn Martins intervened and requested the court that the electricity line is being laid to improve power supply in Calangute and even Candolim as locals and business community in the beach belt are suffering and at times there is no power supply for eight hours in most of the wards in Calangute and even Candolim and the court should take cognizance of it.
