Officials of Gujarat tourism met up with local tour operators on Wednesday to promote the ninth edition of the month –long, Saputara monsoon festival in Gujarat which is underway and will culminate on September 3. The festival for the first time will have group of tourists from Goa, said officials.
The tourism department of Gujarat organises the Sapatara festival each year to promote the place as a hill resort destination and create awareness about the state’s only mountainous region. The festival attracts travelers from all-over India including nearby cities like Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai and Nashik.
Addressing media, Sanatan Pancholi, resident manager, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd, said that, Gujarat tourism is mulling over setting up a branch office in Goa. “We are ready to extend our support to tour operators who are interested in joining us,” he said.
Pancholi was accompanied by Kamlesh Patel, chairman and Subhash Joshi, deputy manager marketing, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat.
Patel said, “Every year, the tourist flow goes up phenomenally during the monsoon festival. We have special tour packages for tourists arriving from different parts of the country. The place also generates income for the locals”.
