Navelim: Down by a goal, Guardian Angel SC struck back through a brace scored by Gilbert Oliveira to down Velsao Sports and Cultural Club 2-1 in the Goa Football Association (GFA) Goa Professional League match played at Rosary grounds, Navelim on Thursday.
Velsao SCC took the lead through U-20 striker Ronaldo Coelho in the 10th minute and thereafter Guardian Angel’s Gilbert Oliveira – who had a great game – scored twice to snatch a scintillating win for his team, finding the mark in the 44th and 54th minutes.
Velsao SCC took the lead following a long cross from the right flank by Romario da Costa which went straight to striker Joseph Pereira, who was lurking into the box, who in turn headed the ball to unmarked Ronaldo Coelho to tap into the empty nets as Guardian Angel keeper Pratheesh Veettil was completely out of position as he had moved forward.
Guardian Agnel S C thereafter went on a rampage, creating several goal scoring chances through their blistering pace and fine moves initiated by their foreign recruits Yakubu and Bamba Moctar who looked devastating for the major part of the first session.
The proceedings of today’s match were fast paced as the ball swung from one end to the other, though Guardian Angel S C enjoyed major chunk of possession.
Yakubu and Bamba looked threatening but it was Gilbert Oliveira who turned out to be the scorer and the match winner for his team.
After continuous onslaughts Guardian Angel S C leveled the score through a freer kick awarded on the top of the rival box in the 44th minute of play which Gilbert Oliveira smashed to the far end of the nets, giving no chance at all to the Guardian Angel S C keeper. The free kick was awarded at Bamba was brought down by a Velsao defender.
The second session saw both the teams slogging it out with Guardian Angel S C asserting themselves with positional play and fire power.
If Velsao survived it was mainly due to good goal keeper by their keeper Presley Mascarenhas.
Guardian Angel’s Gilbert Oliveira completed his brace of goals after some powerful shots off Bamba Musha Moctar and Yakubu were either off the mark or were saved by the rival keeper.
